Portfolio Development Commissions

Concrete and steel plant container Inspired by Bauhaus.

The brief required me to work in different materials and combine them into a uniform design. I took as my inspiration Bauhaus.

The images show my solid works drawings, examples of my manufacture process and construction. I designed and created jigs; I designed, cut , assembled, welded and finished frame using grinder and air polisher; I designed and constructed moulds. I also cast the concrete.

The product is now in use at a customers residence, I have had a further offer to commission a second piece for another interested customer.

Jewellery Design and Upcycling

Jewellery Design

My design brief was to create jewellery designs inspired by natural forms. The photographs show my initial sketches and my final jewellery product of two tessellating hexagons inspired by a spiders web.
To manufacture this I created forms, moulds and cast both items in pewter.
Product is 40mm across and 3mm thick

Jewellery upcycling

The photographs show my initial ideas and sketches of jewellery using upcycled nuts and bolts hardware. My final products were assembled using multiple hex nuts with acrylic red love hearts which I cut out with a laser cutter.
Product size – pendant 50mm x 50mm, Earings 25mm drop excluding wires.

Children's Lighting

My design brief was to create incidental lighting / night light for a child’s room to cast a reassuring light onto walls.

I was influenced by the tenebrism approach to chiaroscuro in my use of highlights and as a child sleeping under a ceiling painted with a sky full of stars, luminous paint glowing when the lights were dimmed.

Photographs show the finished products I created – 2 lights –

My initial sketches following the brief for a child's bedroom were for a rotating light which played music. – My drawings and working models show the mechanism and clockwork music box motor inside model light. The product rotates spots of light around the walls as the music plays.
The other design used a static design but still created a pattern to interest and reassure. I used recycled material throughout; recycled cardboard and string of battery powered LED lights which were also of recycled origin.
Product – 150mm high.

Fundraising products for women's safety in India.

The designs are for items to sell as fundraising material to improve sanitation in rural India. Many women are attacked when they leave the safety of their homes which could be prevented by improved sanitation within or close to their homes.

The products repeated the twin visual themes of India and images of women.

The designs included a countertop cardboard prototype of collection box / display stand / storage box I created to enable products to be delivered, displayed and funds collected using the same recyclable packaging.
Display / storage box integrates an optional donation collection box.
